Inspired by Douglas Adams’ iconic book, this newsletter isn’t about panicking (though markets might make you want to); it’s about turning chaos into opportunity.
I’m Market Hitchhiker, a former sell-side trader with more than a decade of experience at global investment banks. I pivoted my career away from the corporate world in order to focus entirely on my proprietary trading. Writing has become an important part of my journey; what started as a personal trading journal has now turned into something even more exciting: helping fellow hitchhikers make sense of the market and build a community where ideas can be shared and challenged.
In Douglas Adams’ book, the supercomputer Deep Thought calculated the answer (42) to the ultimate question after 7.5 million years. The issue was that no one knew what the actual question was in the first place. Well, as a trader, I sure know what the ultimate question is: What’s your edge? Luckily, it didn’t take me that long to answer it—only a couple of years of expensive mistakes and foolish expectations—and hopefully, I can help you shortcut this process.
My edge lies in my ability to understand the macro landscape, link it with the narratives at play in the market, and find asymmetrical trades when price action, positioning, and sentiment are lining up.
You might wonder, “Why is this dude giving away his edge?” and you are right to ask! I am very comfortable sharing it because I strongly believe this is the only alpha that doesn’t decay with time: We’re betting on the timeless flaws of human nature—how market participants always fall in love with narratives, how crowds behave irrationally, and how they inevitably end up victims of the endless fear-greed cycle.
